21st Annual Meeting on Chatham History Day
CHATHAM – The public is cordially invited to attend Chatham Marconi Maritime Center’s Annual Member’s Business Meeting at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 15th at the Chatham Orpheum Theater, 637 Main Street, Chatham. Doors open at 9:00 AM for coffee & conversation. The agenda includes election of Directors and Officers, updates on the nonprofit organization’s financial status, and an overview of its STEM education, museum and activities.
Immediately following the conclusion of business, Director Emeritus William Farris will present a talk for Chatham History Weekend entitled “From Short Waves to Satellites.” Over the final two decades of the 20th Century, evolving satellite technology replaced established commercial maritime short wave radio (including Chatham’s station WCC) while introducing invaluable services such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) that we take for granted today. Bill managed Chatham Radio/WCC until the close of its operations in 1997, and subsequently enjoyed a second career as a Global Technical Support Engineer for the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT).
