Paul Cezanne Lecture with Beth Stein THURSDAY, NOV 2, (ZOOM & IN PERSON) 10AM-12PM

Cézanne was the artist of the modern age who changed the way we see the world.  For artists of his generation, he became, in a phrase attributed to both Picasso and Matisse, "the father of us all.”  Held in ‘high esteem by the Cubist painters, Cézanne's rigorous and geometric art embodied the balance between form and volume. He was at one time considered to be a madman, a barbarian who found the forms and trappings of civilization irksome.  Some even labelled him a sociopath. He painted many self-portraits, yet was tormented by self-doubt, rejected by the Salon for forty years, sold nothing outside his immediate circle until he was 35, had a family he kept secret from his father until his 40s, and had his first exhibition at the age of 56; however, he fiercely maintained his revolutionary beliefs.

Join Beth Stein as she examines the distinctive, eccentric and accomplished life of this extraordinary artist.
