Cape Cod Healthcare advancing knee replacement surgery with state-of-the-art orthopedic technology

CCHC is the only healthcare system in Massachusetts performing total knee replacement with both ROSA® Knee Robotic Technology and Persona IQ® Smart Knee Implant.

(Hyannis, MA, July 8, 2025) – Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC) offers the latest orthopedic technology as an option for patients considering total knee replacement surgery, now available through the Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement at Falmouth Hospital.

ROSA® Knee System brings together robotic technology with industry-leading knee implants to help surgeons personalize surgical procedures for their patients. ROSA is designed to help specially trained surgeons tailor the placement of a knee implant, ensuring a precise implant fit to improve comfort and recovery following knee replacement surgery for optimal outcomes. Data provided by ROSA Knee before and during surgery assists with complex decision-making and enables surgeons to use computer and software technology to control and move surgical instruments - allowing for greater precision and flexibility during procedures.

Used independently or in tandem with the ROSA® Knee System, CCHC also offers Persona IQ®, the world’s first and only smart knee implant that provides visibility into post-surgical journeys and keeps the patient connected to their healthcare team every step of the way. Persona IQ combines the proven and trusted knee implant, Persona® The Personalized Knee®, with implantable sensor technology that measures range of motion, step count, walking speed and other gait metrics.

Persona IQ then wirelessly transmits collected gait data from the knee implant to a patient’s personal base station at home. The data is securely delivered to a HIPAA compliant cloud-based platform and can be accessed by the patient and their surgeon. Persona IQ works together with mymobility®, a remote care management platform that tracks pre- and post-operative mobility metrics.

Both technologies were developed by Zimmer Biomet, a global leader in orthopedic innovation. Cape Cod Healthcare is the only healthcare system in Massachusetts performing knee replacement surgeries with both platforms.

Total knee replacement with the ROSA Knee System and/or Persona IQ are offered by trained orthopedic surgeons Paul Dimond, MD, and Jonathan Sunkin, MD, of Falmouth Orthopedic Center.

“This expansion of the latest in robotic and smart technology further strengthens our commitment to delivering high-quality, advanced and safe care to our community,” says Michael Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “As the only healthcare system in Massachusetts performing total knee replacement with both the ROSA Knee System and Persona IQ Smart Knee technologies, our nationally certified Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement at Falmouth Hospital remains committed to advancing orthopedic care for our community.”
